Dressing for
skiing isn’t just about looking good on the lift—it’s about staying warm, dry,
and free to move in the mountains. At Elevenate, we know that the right
layering system makes all the difference between a great day and a cold, wet
one.
Here's how we dress for skiing, with
performance, protection, and freedom in mind—just like we design our gear.
The base layer is
your first line of defense against moisture. It’s there to wick sweat away from
your body and keep you dry from the inside out. Forget cotton—once it’s wet, it
stays wet. Instead, opt for high-quality merino wool or technical synthetic fabrics.
They breathe, manage moisture, and keep you warm even if they get damp.
Think snug but
not tight. You want the base layer to hug your skin comfortably and follow your
movements without restriction. At Elevenate, we always start the day with a
reliable merino base—natural performance that just works.
Once your base
layer is dialed, it’s time to trap warmth. Your mid layer acts as insulation,
keeping you warm in variable mountain conditions. This could be a fleece, a
light down sweater, or a synthetic insulated piece depending on the temps and
your activity level.
For high-output
ski touring, we like breathable, lightweight insulation that doesn’t overheat
on the skintrack. For lift-accessed powder laps, we go for something warmer
that holds up in windy lift lines and stormy days. Either way, your mid layer
should fit well over your base and under your shell without bulk.
Your outer
layer—also known as your shell—is what protects you from wind, snow, and
everything else the mountain throws your way. This is where quality truly
matters. A good shell jacket and pants are waterproof, windproof, breathable,
and cut for movement.
Our Elevenate
shells are built to perform in demanding conditions. Whether you’re skiing deep
in the backcountry or ripping laps in-bounds, we’ve designed our shells to move
with you and keep the elements out, all day long. Look for features like
ventilation zips, helmet-compatible hoods, and articulated knees and
elbows—they’re not gimmicks; they’re built for real skiing.
A warm hat or
helmet liner, goggles that match the conditions, breathable gloves, and proper
ski socks are just as essential as your jacket and pants. We always recommend
bringing layers you can stow or shed depending on weather shifts—like a light
insulated vest or an extra pair of gloves for storm days.
At Elevenate, we
believe skiing is about flow, freedom, and presence in the mountains. Dressing
right lets you move naturally and focus on the line in front of you—not the
chill creeping into your spine. Layer smart, choose gear that breathes and
protects, and never underestimate the power of high-quality materials.
